Left Behind V is part of a new series Marko Klomp started in 2019. In each of these painting, Marko Klomp paints in his signature 'soft focus' style a vast landscape with a singular animal figure. The work in this series is very large, and the sense of isolation is painfully poetic in each piece.
In Left Behind V, we see a lone penguin on a pastel beach. The waves crash on the beach and the penguin seem to be staring off into the distance over the ocean. There is a pastel colour scheme of baby blues and light pinks, which suggests a pre-dawn moment. There is a lot of cool and coldish elements in the painting, that has the promise of a warm day. You can feel the coolness of the pre-dawn beach. Left Behind is a very small oil painting on panel.
